Downe House Riyadh was honoured to welcome Ms Jocelyn Waller, Arabic Spokesperson for the British Embassy in the Middle East and North Africa.
Ms Waller joined us to champion the importance of girls in STEM and engaged in a thoughtful, student-led interview conducted confidently in both Arabic and English. She shared insights from her career journey, but one message resonated powerfully with our students: to truly understand a region and build meaningful relationships, you must engage with its language.
This speaks directly to the DNA of Downe House Riyadh. We place deep importance on the Arabic language, Saudi heritage, and developing globally minded young women who are culturally literate, confident, and outward-looking.
Led by our students with maturity, curiosity, and confidence, this was a genuinely inspiring exchange — and one we are proud to have hosted.

Shakespeare 4 Kidz returned this year with Alice in Wonderland, and our students were completely swept away, laughing, dancing, and buzzing with excitement from start to finish. A joyful reminder that learning is even better when it feels like magic on stage.

Our Oman expedition was more than a trip; it was a journey in courage, independence, and growth.
From desert nights and sand-sledging to hiking Wadi Bani Khalid and Wadi Shab, our students embraced every challenge with confidence and curiosity, stepping well beyond their comfort zones.
A special highlight was visiting our sister school, #DowneHouseMuscat, where our girls connected with peers and collaborated on #ProjectEarthling, exploring sustainability as part of a global Downe House community.
From bold leaps into the Bimmah Sinkhole to snorkelling at Bandar Khairan Island alongside turtles and jellyfish, the adventure ended on a high note. As one Year 8 student, Alshihana, perfectly said:
“This isn’t the best day of the trip — it’s the best day of my life.”
Because at Downe House Riyadh, learning goes beyond books, and the future is hers.
