Families from all over the world send their children to Downe House UK. The school has created a global network of over 3,000 women of whom many are well-known world figures, including Lady Gabriella Windsor, Dame Alice Rosemary Murray (the first, female Vice Chancellor of Cambridge University) and members of the Saudi, Malaysian and Belgian royal families.
Outstanding results
Downe House consistently ranks within the top 2% of independent schools in the UK. ‘Work Hard – Aim High’ is a mantra that Downe House girls adopt. The personal triumphs at the heart of our remarkable results are testament to that.
In 2022, 88% of all GCSE grades were awarded at grades 9-7 (A*-A) and an amazing 34% of all our pupils achieved 9 or more grade 9-8s (A*); among them were four girls whose academic endeavour saw them achieve 11 or more grade 9 -8 results.
In the same year, 92% of A-Level grades achieved were A* to B with the A*-A/D1-D3 percentage remaining consistently high, at 75%. Fifteen girls left Downe House UK having achieved 3 or more A* grades, which is an outstanding achievement.
World ranking universities
Pupils leave Downe House UK to take up places at top universities in the UK and across the world, including the USA, Canada and Australia. In 2022, 89% took up places offered at their first choice universities, with 82% heading to Russell Group universities and 29% to the World’s Top 50. Many students (24%) went on to read STEM subjects including 10% reading Medicine and Medical Sciences, with Politics, Economics and Management, as well as creative and performing arts courses being very well represented.

Downe House was founded in 1907 by Olive Willis in Kent and moved to Cold Ash in 1922. Since then the School has grown and evolved whilst staying true to its founding principles. Found out more about our history.
